Galbanum Essential Oil

from $67.45

Our organically crafted Galbanum Essential Oil is steam distilled from the resin of the Ferula galbaniflua plant, native to the Middle East and western Asia, but now more commonly cultivated in Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, and Lebanon. The resinous exudation, collected by making incisions at the base of the plant, has a very intense turpentine scent. When distilled, however, it transforms into a lovely, complex aromatic generally used as a fixative or base note in perfumery blends. To maintain the purity of galbanum gum, Ferula galbaniflua must be harvested with care and not mixed with other Ferula species.

Galbanum Essential Oil boasts a powerful green, leafy-earthy aroma with smooth woody, balsamic undertones. Due to its excellent fixative properties and intense aroma, only extremely small quantities are needed to impart its green notes and to fix top notes and accords, as well as middle and base notes.

Historically, Ferula galbaniflua has been used in traditional and herbal medicine and as incense for thousands of years, addressing skincare and respiratory health issues. The father of ancient medicine, Hippocrates, used it in many curative recipes. The Ancient Egyptians used Galbanum as incense and during the embalming process.
